New ways to think about turbulence – models to help understand what happens to planes and you

Here’s a video I created at the beginning of 2018 to help fearful flyers understand better what happens to aircraft in turbulence and why their mantra ought to be

“turbulence might be uncomfortable but it’s not unsafe. I know what to do to manage myself”

In the video below I use some favourite raspberry jelly (jello for US visitors) to illustrate the properties of air when your at 35000 feet and travelling at 600 miles per hour!

In fact, not long before I published this entry, the article from. the ABC website below appeared on my twitter feed showing how clouds form like waves in the upper atmosphere, taking on the properties of water.
